Blogs and Safety
Blogging
I find is a way to share an idea or a concept with the world; whether it is a
new pie recipe or
a breakthrough in science. Blogging can also help when something needs to
be said but there is no one to listen which is how a lot of students feel without
knowing it. A good example of this is the diary blog where the
user just blogs about his or her day and all the struggles and triumphs they
had. Blogging is a good way to work in a group that has members who are
separated by time or distance. Members can add their input as they can and not
rely on the entire group to be present.
Blogging can also be a what for a large group to follow what one
particular person is doing. With blogging came micro blogging which were
instant posts that were much shorter and to the point. An example is Twitter,
where a large group can read what one person says. Something that a lot of
people don’t think about is that blogging can be dangerous. A place where you
are trying to feel your most comfortable can be taken advantage of. People can
follow you and gather important information about you. I suggest that if a blog
is used or started in a class (elementary or secondary school) that internet safety
needs to be taught first. Just so that student know not to chat with strangers
or give out their passwords and to just over all blog safely.

You are off to a great start. I agree that kids need to be taught internet safety. And, especially for little ones they need to have blogs in a protected environment. Some schools do have that kind of server/software.
ReplyDeleteReally I had know idea that you could set up a server just for them, my dad is an IT guy so all I hear about is viruses, hacking and being safe on the internet.
